Stakeholder Strategy: managing relationships with international governments

Guinness Gallagher governance and public sector management experts assisted Microsoft manage its relationship with the various governments of the South Pacific around seeking their support for the ratification by the International Standard’s body of ISO/IEC standardization of the Ecma Office Open XML document format, the default format for the Microsoft Office suite of applications and an existing ECMA (European IT industry) standard.

Our specialized team developed a multi-country stakeholder management strategy outlining the main benefits of the adoption of the standard including: -

  • Protecting heritage by guaranteeing ongoing access to valuable legacy documents;
  • Fostering innovation, choice and competition in the marketplace through interoperability and platform independence;
  • Enabling the IT industry to provide new and innovative solutions;
  • Ensuring stewardship and ownership of the standard is moved from the vendor to a neutral, internationally-recognized standards organization.
